OTTAWA, ON. January 1, 2009 – Kate Kirkwood, manager of the Beijing Imperial Guard hockey team, riles up her players before they head off to a semi-final game in the Bell Capital Cup. The team was part of the guests that were evacuated due to a fire at the Radisson Hotel at 402 Queen Street shortly after 8 a.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2009. The team decided to compete despite being late for their 10:30am start time and having to use borrowed equipment. The Beijing Imperial Guard won by a score of 9-4 against the Carleton Place Kings.
