MANOTICK, ON. August 27, 2008 – Ben Francis, an instructor at Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind, rewards Bailey, a German Shepherd guide in training. Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind hosted an open house at its National Training Centre in Manotick. Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind has provided professionally trained guide dogs to visually impaired Canadians since 1984.

MANOTICK, ON. August 27, 2008 – Maya, a Labrador Retriever, is a retired dog used for breeding at the Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind. She is pictured with her master.

GATINEAU, ON. August 3, 2008 – The Red Bull Flugtag challenges teams of everyday people to build homemade, human-powered flying machines and pilot them off a 6.7 metres (22 feet) high deck in hopes of achieving flight. Teams are judged on their flight’s distance, creativity and showmanship. 50,000 spectators made it out to witness these quirky mchines make a splash.

OTTAWA, ON. August 2, 2008 – Boats shimmer down the waterway during the Rideau Canal Festival Flotilla, a nighttime parade that casted off from the locks in downtown Ottawa. Boaters decorated their vessels with lights and colours in the spirit of the theme “Heritage by Night.”
